Global shortage of hard drives expected by 2011

The Tsunami in Japan was a generally devastating event for the environment, the economy and the Japanese people and even though it occurred back in March it is still having repercussions today.

The companies Renesas Electronics and Texas Instruments were both affected by the disaster and since they are the global providers of Hard drive chips their problems put the whole market at risk. Although production has recommenced and is back at full speed there is another issue. The integrity of production is under question and the production of Hard drive chips need to be re certified. This will be done in Q2 of 2011 which is strangely enough when demand for Hard drives peak. So expect shortages on hard drives later this year.
