Android 4.0 ready for x86, Desktop Androids anyone?

Google's Android development team have held firm on their promise to bring Android 4.0 to the x86 market. They have now announced that the x86 branch of the Android 4.0.1 source-code is ready for use. However, it is worth nothing that everything is still a bit on the buggy side, currently there are issues with  sound, camera, Ethernet and Intel hardware acceleration. Internet connectivity can still be done though as Wi-Fi connectivity works fine. AMD Radeon hardware acceleration is enabled though and you can also use multi-touch gesture devices.

This is a major step in opening up the more mobile-orientated x86 processors to a more mobile operating system. Intel's Atom and AMD's fusion processors will work well with the new Android 4.0.1 operating system and the fact it is free and open source like Linus means it should take off in popularity relatively quickly. it should also help to bring prices in the Tablet and Ultrabook market down by replacing the slower x64 ARM processors with low power x86 processors opening up the possibility of more functionality that we come to associate with desktop and laptop computers.
