AMD developing a HD 6930

AMD is reportedly working on a new HD 6000 series graphics card in response to Nvidia's GTX 560Ti 448 release. Essentially the GTX 560Ti 448 now competes with the HD 6970 on performance and is in the same price bracket. There is also a very large price gap between the HD 6870 and HD 6950 of about £50/$70/€50 which needs to be filled and so a new card the "HD 6930" would fit in exactly in the middle of this gap. It would also provide competition with the GTX 560Ti which is something the HD 6870 struggles to do but the HD 6930 would do a lot better.

The HD 6930 will feature 1280 advanced VLIW4 stream processors, 80 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface that will hold 1 GB of memory. The core will be clocked at 750 MHz, and the memory at 1200 MHz (4.80 GHz effective). Most manufacturers will reuse the HD 6950 board design to save money as this card should come in quite cheap at $180-$200. The aim of this is to allow the HD 6930 to compete (and win) against the GTX 560 Ti in the sub $200 price bracket whilst the HD 6950/6970 compete against the GTX 560Ti 448 core.
