Activision doing well as 18 million map packs are sold

Activision Blizzard has confirmed that in the 1 year period of June 2010 to June 2011 they sold an incredible 18 million map packs for the Call of Duty: Black Ops game. There were 3 map packs released so far and a final fourth map pack is to be released on Xbox 360 only. The company reports digital download revenues are up a staggering $1.7 billion or 22% compared to the 2009-2010 season.

Activision Blizzard is now claiming over 40 million gamers playing its titles on a regular basis with 20 million of those being Call of Duty players and 15 million of these being StarCraft or World of Warcraft players. Which means Activision is going to continue expanding their DLC products given the high market they have to aim at. The average Call of Duty Black Ops owner spent $76 on the game and DLC which shows the revenues to be had from the map packs and DLC market. However, many analysts are touting these revenues to fall as Battlefield 3 is predicted to put a dampener on the Call of Duty series from October onwards.
