Bing becomes the UKs second biggest search engine...but still 87% behind Google

Experian Hitwise's latest figures show that Bing climbed in popularity across the UK for July's figures. It moved up 0.96% in terms of total searches conducted making it the second most popular search engine with just 3.84% of the total market. Yahoo therefore dropped back into third place with only 3% of the total market. However, if these figures looked like Bing was doing well it is actually still way behind Google which holds a monstrous 91.04% of the UK search engine market.

The Director of Operations at Experian, Robin Goad, had this to say about this months figures:

"Microsoft has recovered from last month’s blip to once again become the UK’s second most popular search provider, The gains made by Microsoft Sites this month are almost exactly equal to the losses suffered by Google, which means that some of the searches that were being conducted on Google engines last month are now being typed into bing. In this constantly fluctuating search market, it’s important for brands to understand where people are searching for their products, and crucially how rankings, paid rates and search success rates can vary across the different search engines. The key for bing now is to hold on to its gains in the search market and build on its strengths which differentiate it from Google and the other engines."
